The Methodist Church in Seahouses

Outside and inside the church.

Our Methodist Church is at the geographical, social and spiritual centre of the coastal resort and harbour village of Seahouses in Northumberland. Along with our holiday makers, it draws its congregation from a wider area including adjoining North Sunderland as well as Bamburgh, Beadnell and smaller villages dotting the farmland in between. Administratively, it functions within the Lindisfarne Circuit: the Minister is Revd. Gill McBride. You can “meet” Gill on the Circuit website.

SUNDAY SERVICES are held at 10.45 am and 6.00 pm.

Local preachers, worship leaders and visiting preachers contribute to the spiritual wellbeing of the community. Among the regulars are Mr George Scott, local preacher from the village, and Revd. David Collinson from Shilbottle. Gill also has pastoral charge of the Methodist church at Berwick.

The seating capacity of the church provides much the largest and most central venue for cultural and fund-raising activities within the village. These have included visits by Jimmy Cricket and Eurovision Song Contest Winner Dana, as well as choirs and other musicians from elsewhere in the UK and Europe. Excellent acoustics with seating on two levels provide ideal conditions, with in-house provision including the main organ, electronic piano and the built-in audio-visual system.

Another vital resource is the range of rooms tucked away behind, but connected to, the main church. Two meeting rooms, refurbished and modernised in 2011, are serviced by a storage area, kitchen and toilets. The Girls’ Brigade, young people’s group, Art group and our own Village Voices choir (click for details) meet here regularly. Planned events are usually listed on this website’s Events page.
